3 Ways You Can Set The World Ablaze In This New Year + Goal Setting Worksheet

“What you don’t do, can create the same regrets as the mistakes you make. ~Iyanla Vanzant

Hey there, Woman of Purpose!

Are you looking forward to the new year?

Have any regrets about what you didn’t do this year? Wondering how you can avoid that this time next year or in the years to come?

Keep reading, I got something that I believe will help!

For some, like a convo I had with a close girlfriend of mine, this year was full of major transitions, upheavals, unexpected twists and turns, losses and devastation. She is so ready to leave it behind.

For others, it may have been an amazing year and has you full of anticipation and excitement about what else is in store for you in new year.

Sis, you may even find yourself somewhere in between the two.

Well, I have some news for you!

What if I told you that you are (or can be) an instant author today?

And what if I told you that you can start writing, reading and living that narrative right now, instead of another day (which by the way is NOT on the calendar as one of the days of the week, *wink)?

Yup, that’s right.

YOU hold the pen to your life narrative for this new year and for the next 2, 5, or 50 years of your life.

    1. It starts with dreaming backwards.

Recently I’ve been challenged, and provoked (in a good way), to take full control of my finances.

Instead of focusing on wanting to get out of debt (can we say, “Bye-bye Navient and Sallie Mae!”), I decided to take a different approach. I began looking at what my life would be like once I was out of debt.

I began asking myself questions like,

What would I do differently? Where would I go? Who would I help? How would I live?

I started with the end in mind, envisioned myself being out of debt in my mind, and then worked my way backwards to determine what I would need to do to get myself there.

     2. Then, I created a vision for that area of my life by writing it down very clearly of what life would be like living debt free.

I saw the vision fully manifested in my mind, spirit and heart first, and then decided that what I saw was worth me creating goals around it to help me get there.

My future children are worth it.

Changing my family tree is worth it.

All the awesome women I have served and will continue to serve through my gifts are worth it. By the way, that includes you!

And you know what else?

I believed I could get there. After all, that’s what faith is:

the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.” ~(Hebrews 11:1)

Hear me when I say this:

Don’t underestimate the power of your mind and having a vision!

So I sat down just a few days ago to create a tangible visual.

I needed something that would help me to stay focused on the goals that would become the words of my own narrative (with God’s help of course!).

I saw that visual in my mind first, of what I wanted to create, and then got busy creating it.

This way I could print it out NOW and put it up somewhere for me to see it every day before entering the new year.

And as I was creating it, I thought about you, Woman of Purpose.

These last couple of months, I’ve been intentionally praying about ways I can serve those who I am connected to and who are connected to me better. (Here is another way you can help me do that, by completing this quick survey.)

Then I thought, “Why not share this visual with my community too.”

No matter how many days we have left in the current year, be sure to spend those days wisely. Your future YOU and all those you are called to serve is depending and waiting on you.

Decide NOW what you want to do differently (or better) in the new year to prepare you for what’s to come. Don’t wait until the new year to start. Begin writing your narrative today.

   3. And then run with it!

Let’s set this world ablaze this year.

Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. Write [it] large and clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others. These things…won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!

(Habakkuk 2:2-3, emphasis/paraphrase mine)

Just in case you missed it (or you happened to scroll down to the end of this blog post), here are the 3 ways you can set the world ablaze in this new year:

1. Dream backwards.

2. Write down what you see, (the vision), clearly.

3. Run with it (slowly, steadily and surely) until is fulfilled.

If you’re ready to set the world ablaze in this new year, grab your Goals Worksheet and let’s run with it! (I also included an example for you straight from my own worksheet for 2018!)

**Bonus: This is my theme song and playlist. Hope it gets you amped too! I encourage you to create one for yourself.

P.S. One last thing: please be sure complete this quick survey so I can serve you better in this new year.
